Frame # 550-06954 400cc Mint 400. According to records was built in March 1976. Very rare bike. This was an older restoration but bike still looks really nice. Has very nice original pipe. I believe the handle bars are original and are very nice. Grips are new OURY. Number plates are new. Cables are new. NEW seat foam & cover, w/ original fiberglass pan & correct mounts. Fiberglass side panels and airbox are original and have been restored–very nice. Engine runs great with newly rebuilt original BING carb. All original Magura controls. Engine was completely dismantled, cleaned and resealed where needed, and then reassembled. 6-speed trans and clutch work as designed. Very rare early Ohlins shocks were just rebuilt and then restored cosmetically. Original 36mm Marzocchi forks were just rebuilt & restored. Frame disassembled, cleaned, inspected, and powdercoated correct KTM silver. Wheel & brakes inspected & rebuilt. Excellent orig. tank has all petcocks, cap, & was restored with 2-stage fuel impervious paint & clearcoat along with new graphics. Has complete airbox with new Uni foam filter. Dunlop Sports knobbies are excellent and are at approx. 90% tread remaining.
You gotta’ love KTM. Chromoly steel frames, magnesium hubs, magnesium engine cases, quality shocks, Ceriani forks & triple clamps; fiberglass fuel tanks, Metzler tires, etc. etc. All the top end components which made these bikes very competitive right out of the crate.
KTM engines were considered some of the fastest air cooled 2-stroke engines ever built for their classes.
