Fifteen-year-old West Australian teenager Shanniah Barker lives life in the fast lane.
Updated
Shanniah was born with spina bifida. Her mother and father, Angela and David, have ridden motorbikes for years. After a rigorous project of modifying a sidecar for Shanniah, they embarked on their first family ride, from Katanning to Wagin in Western Australia’s Great Southern.
“It?s not like I am trapped at home, because I’ve felt trapped before and I couldn’t get out of?hospital.”

I love motorbikes. It makes me smile. My cheeks hurt … I can?t wipe the smile off my?face.

We had the motorcycle approved. Now we?re allowed to ride it whenever we want and ride as a?family.

Dad really wanted to ride with me before I got sick. When I got sick he couldn’t ride with me, so he was stressed?out.

It?s a celebration for getting out of?hospital.
We had to wait a couple of weeks after the surgery so she could wear a helmet. So today was the day. Today is a?celebration.

It?s just the freedom of being out and not stuck at home. We all ride [five Barker children, including Isaac, pictured?centre].
It?s like a dream come?true.
